TRAINING COURSE ON ENHANCING CAPACITY FOR GENDER-SENSITIVE AND CHILD-FRIENDLY LEGAL AID SERVICES
As part of the program "Strengthening Justice for Minors in Vietnam (2022–2026)", Hanoi Law University, in collaboration with UNICEF Vietnam, organized the training course "Enhancing Capacity for Gender-Sensitive and Child-Friendly Legal Aid Services". The course was designed for lecturers and staff members of the university.
The training took place on March 13–14, 2025, in Vinh Yen, Vinh Phuc, with the participation of 34 lecturers and staff members from Hanoi Law University, particularly those from the Legal Practice Center.
The training aimed to raise awareness and equip lecturers and staff with the necessary knowledge and skills for providing legal aid services tailored to the specific needs of minors. The course covered key topics, including:
- An overview of juvenile justice;
- Principles of gender-sensitive and child-friendly legal aid;
- Counseling skills and working with minors;
- Practical case studies and experience sharing.
The training was conducted under the guidance of leading experts in juvenile justice and gender sensitivity, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Lan Huong and Dr. Tran Thi Lien. They provided valuable insights into the practical implementation of child-friendly legal aid services in Vietnam.
Through this program, lecturers and staff of Hanoi Law University gained essential knowledge and practical approaches to effectively integrate child-friendly legal aid services into their teaching and professional work. This initiative is crucial in improving the quality of justice for minors and protecting their legal rights and interests.
Moving forward, UNICEF remains committed to supporting Hanoi Law University in:
- Strengthening and enhancing the curriculum on juvenile justice, including reviewing and updating the "Juvenile Justice" textbook to align with the 2024 Juvenile Justice Law and other relevant legal documents;
- Developing training materials to enhance students' professional skills in providing gender-sensitive and child-friendly legal aid services;
- Designing two new courses on human rights, focusing on Women's Rights and Children's Rights;
- Exploring the development of an elective course or teaching materials on gender-based violence (GBV) prevention.
