The 16th ASLI Conference 2019

We are pleased to announce that the Asian Law Institute (ASLI) at the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law will host the 16th ASLI Conference in Singapore on 11 and 12 June 2019.  We look forward to welcoming you and value your contribution to the ongoing success of this annual conference.

The 16th ASLI Conference 2019

The purpose of the annual conference is to bring together scholars of Asian law from within and outside Asia to interact, share ideas and build collegial networks which may facilitate dialogue and research collaborations. We hope that this research forum will be widely used to bring together collaborators in various projects.  Presenters and non-presenters are encouraged to connect with fellow academics before the conference and to start thinking about potential research projects.

The conference format remains broadly the same as in previous years: there will be numerous parallel sessions over two days. The broad theme of the 2019 conference is The Rule of Law and the Role of Law in Asia.

Under the conference theme, we will, as far as possible, group papers within broad subject areas, and will form panels on this basis. The broad subject areas will include: Banking and Finance; Children and Law; Competition Law; Constitutional and Administrative Law; Corporate Law & Governance; Criminal Law; Environmental Law; Family Law; Human Rights; Information Technology Law; International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution; International Business Law; International Investment Law; International Law; Intellectual Property Rights; International Regulation of Trade; Law & Economic Development; Law & Society; Legal Education; Legal Pluralism; Maritime Law; Migration, Private Law; Law and Religion; and Women & Law.

However, we welcome papers on all topics, and the 'Miscellaneous' category means that it is not necessary for a paper to fit within any specific subject area to be accepted.

Please visit our conference web site at https://law.nus.edu.sg/asli/16th_asli_conf/index.html for details selection criteria, guidelines for abstract or paper submissions and other related conference information.

The website, which will be updated periodically with the latest information on tentative panel sessions and programme schedule, also contains information on recommended conference hotels.

We regret that no subsidies are available for expenditures such as air flights, hotel charges and conference fees. A detailed and finalized programme (speaker panels, etc.) will be made available to all registered participants nearer the date of the conference.

We would very much appreciate your help in bringing this conference to the attention of your faculty/law school colleagues, as well as to anyone whom you think might be interested in attending, whether as a paper presenter or otherwise.

For enquiries regarding the conference, please contact the ASLI Secretariat at

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you in Singapore in June 2019.
